Miss Cardi freshens up a moldy oldie.
If you asked us to name some of the most tired elements and motifs in fashion, we’d certainly put D&G’s sofa florals pretty high on the list. We can count on one hand the number of times in the last few years any celeb lady managed to make the mumsy, back-blacked, kitschy, large-scale florals Stefano and Domenico have become known for look stylish or fresh in any way. Actually, if we think about it for a few seconds, we can’t recall anyone making this look fun or new in recent years. Then along comes Cardi, a gal who’s willing to go that extra ten miles or so, and suddenly the old couch floral starts looking fun and glamorous and costume-y in a good way. If we really got into the nitty-gritty of technical critiques, we might note that the skirt is too fussy for her and the earrings don’t really go, but we’d be missing the point if we focused on such things. This is one of those “moments” you hear fashion people talk about. It’s about the overall impact and how well it serves the wearer. We’d say this is a red carpet personal best for her. And we don’t think anyone could’ve made this work like she did.
