And now for a shocking turn of events: Us, not really liking a Yara Shahidi red carpet effort.
We sat on this one for a while because we couldn’t figure out it we were reacting negatively because she matches the backdrop too much. But after staring at these shots for an unhealthy amount of time, we’re ready to make our highly technical critique. It’s all too much muchness. She’s got the right qualities to work a fairly fussy, vaguely juvenile dress and have it come off like high fashion – especially if there’s a Chanel label sewn inside. But there are three elements here and we think the dress can accept, at best, two of them: the overdone sleeves, the aggressive fabric blocking, or the dropped waist with the ruffly skirt. At least one of those has to go for this dress to work, but we’re inclined to think each of them should be restricted to a separate design. In addition, she bottomed it off with a pair of equally fussy shoes in a color that fights the rest of the look. We’re sorry, Miss Yara. It’s a rare moment when we declare one of your efforts a stumble but except for the hair, none of this really works for us.
