Venice Film Festival: Tilda Swinton Clowns It Up in Schiaparelli Couture “At Eternity’s Gate” Premiere

Posted on September 04, 2018

It NEVER fails, darlings. Whenever we take the time to analyze and sum up a star’s style and aesthetic, they will inevitably turn around and do something completely unexpected within days, if not hours. Yesterday we were all about declaring Pope Tilda’s style to be about clean boldness and the balancing out of elements. In (imaginary) response to our analysis, she stepped out in …

A clown gown.

Still, we can’t say we hate this entirely. While runway styling isn’t always the best way to go for real-world wear, this was a bit of a conceptual look and Tilda, being that type, naturally considered the concept more important than attempting to interpret it. We wouldn’t dream of suggesting she take off the gloves or find a complementary pair of shoes. Once you commit to that dress, it’s probably best to commit to the matchy styling. If nothing else, it’s really bold and unlike anything you’ll see on a red carpet this year. It’s not pretty and it’s not our favorite Swinton jawn, but it’s pretty damn high impact.
