We’ve been focusing pretty heavily on the lady attendees at Venice and Deauville, mostly because there’s just so much eye-popping gownery on display. Just to shake things up and cleanse the palate, let’s check in on a little bit of Venice Film Festival boystyle, from a boy who’s particularly adept at working moddish, Euro-tinged menswear.

So much rightness and wrongness at the same time. He absolutely has that certain quality that would allow him to work a lightweight summer suit with an undershirt at a Venice Film Festival photo call. But that undershirt looks too flimsy, the gold chain is a bit on the cringey side, and you really can’t make this style work with an unbuttoned double-breasted suit jacket. Some sort of deconstructed take on a linen suit was called for here.
Also, the black shoes just make him look partially dressed.

Much better. Despite our non-love of gold chains on men, we do appreciate that he likes jewelry and integrates it into his red carpetry. The fit’s great, the grooming’s great and we kinda dig the vaguely ’70s color scheme, but we’re having a hard time accepting the prospect of the return of the three-button suit. Matt can make it work, but so few men can.
