Bless those Italians and their innately chic approach to things. While there are plenty of fashion parades to be found among the international film festival circuit, Venice is right up there with Cannes for its insistence on a range of styles from its participants; from sporty day wear to semi-formal photo call ensembles to full-on high-formal drag-level gownery. Honestly, Venice may even be slightly ahead of Cannes on this one. While the latter offers plenty of opportunities for wind-swept beach-side posing, the getting-off-the-water-taxi shot always seems to wind up looking like an ad campaign.
Dakota Johnson Arrives for the Venice Film Festival in Ganni
This is simply … perfect. Right down to the nail color and shoe choice. She’s serving early ’80s pre-supermodel realness and she happens to be distinctly well-suited for that kind of look. Her tucking game needs a little work, but she’s getting off a boat, so we’ll be non-bitches about it.

We’re not inclined to get all excited over a dress like this, but as white lace frocks go, this is a pretty one. Given the nature of the project she’s promoting, this sort of pseudo-bridal, stereotypically virginal-in-tone style of dress is a good choice. And it suits her well. She went through a period of Wacky Fashion (mostly Gucci), but we think she does well with these semi-iconic styles.

Like so. It’s old-school and almost simplistic in style (from the front, at least), but on her it becomes boldly iconic. Love the extra volume in the back, which gives it an unexpectedly regal tone. And of course, if you’re out there on your Suspiria remake tour, a good blood-red gown just makes sense. We’d say she’s nailing the promo fashion on this one, to a level we’ve never seen from her before.
