Toronto International Film Festival Style File: Cara Delevingne Brings a Little Edge

Posted on September 11, 2018

It occurs to us that Miss Cara doesn’t do red carpets as often as she should, given how boldly eye-catching, modern and impeccable her style choices tend to be. Then again, maybe that relative rarity of appearances is exactly why she tends to really crush it when she does it. She doesn’t overdo it or run out of things to wear.

This is chic and fierce and yes, we are saying that about an ensemble that includes a fishnet mesh shirt. What can we say? Girl’s got a knack for the hard-to-wear stuff. It’s to her credit that she seems to know and lean into that. The normal pantsuit proportions are subtly freshened up, with the super-skinny paints paired with the elongated jacket. Those shoes are a bit much and we’d be hard-pressed to come up with an outfit where they really work, but Miss Cara and her style team managed it. They’re a great choice to finish off the look.

That’s just hot. The dress is designed to cleverly fool the eye into seeing a torso with almost alien-like proportions, which is perfect for someone like her, who gives off more than a whiff of outer space. We go back and forth on the boots. They’re such an unexpected choice that we’re halfway considering them brilliant. Then we start thinking the reason they’re so unexpected is because they’re the wrong choice. You guys can make the call on that one. We’ll be over here loving her whole Bowie’s Daughter drag.
