Darlings, there was simply no way this one wasn’t happening. We knew Gaga was going to pull out all the red carpet stops for the A Star is Born poledance, which meant the likelihood of her wearing the Number One and Number Two most eye-popping looks of the week were going to be pretty high. Your challenge in picking which look belongs in which slot comes down to whether you’re in a silver mood or a golden one; whether you’re feeling glamorous our like a queen.
And speaking of queens, here’s two, bickering over it.
Lo’s Defense: Give me Hollywood Gaga over Queen Gaga any day of the week. I have a really low threshold for certain forms of grandiosity and sometimes the Queen/Goddess tropes among pop stars can get a little overblown. This is slinky, sparkly and striking. I love both looks but I just respond much better to this one, which feels like a modern classic instead of a retread of a very old motif.
T’s Defense: Please. If there’s one thing that Gaga’s good at – other than being a generation-defining international pop star – it’s drag. I adore both dresses too. I’m going to fight for them to both be in the top ten best of the year. But one of them is a gorgeous if only slightly about standard Hollywood Glamour Queen look and the is simply pure, mainline QUEEN without any subtlety about it. No one came close to looking like this at a non-Met Gala event this year.
There you have it, dolls! Two queens bickering about two different ways of queening! Which queen will snatch the crown from the other?
