Ralph Lauren’s 50th Anniversary Fashion Show Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on September 10, 2018

A bunch of A-listers came out in their absolute finest in tribute to the man who became a pillar of American fashion of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. And while we’re just a teeny disappointed no one showed up in polo togs or cowboy cosplay or preppy plaids, they nonetheless provided a fitting tribute by collectively looking pretty spectacular. If you came here for bitchy critiquing, we’re afraid this post is going to be fairly light on it. If you came here for soothing self-care by staring at beautiful people in beautiful clothes for the next few minutes, you just hit the jackpot.

Allison Williams

This is one of the few times where you won’t hear us complaining that she looks like a New York socialite. In this setting, she’s totally on point. And besides, if she wasn’t a successful actress, she almost certainly would be a full-time New York socialite by now.

Anne Hathaway

A classic, classically rendered.

Ansel Elgort

He’s the only person we can think of who could come close to pulling this off. He’s merely coming close, howevs. We think the point at which it becomes too much for us is when we start noticing the buttons – and then can’t stop noticing them.

Blake Lively

Another classic, classically rendered. The shoe choice is kind of fun – and possibly the reason for the walking stick, by the looks of her tilt.

Henry Golding

We never have a problem with socklessness and traditional menswear in the summer months, but it will never look right to us with a tux.

Iman

GODDESS.

James Norton

Love the subtle use of plaid.

Jessica Chastain

It’s a pretty dress but that is so clearly not her color.

Katherine Langford

We love when she gets her goth-couture thing on. She’s really well suited for it.

Kelly Ripa

It’s fine, but not very photogenic. She looks generic.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

We think they’re both a couple of tryhards, but they do look pretty amazing here. His “I’m so swole” posing is hilarious when you consider the massive space between his arm and torso.

Tom Hiddleston

Serving what he’s best at.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Love everything about this but that belt. It’s just too focus-pulling. The jewelry is what should be drawing your eye here – because it’s fantastic. It shouldn’t have to fight with an accessory for your attention.
