Oh, we’re very much torn on this one. First, we were just talking about putting together a shopping post of stylish corduroy for the fall season, since it’s not something we’ve tackled before, it’s somewhat perennially on point for fall, and it’s a textile that sometimes needs a little navigating, lest it become dowdy, frumpy, or way too ’70s funky. Which brings us to Miss Olivia and her take on the matter:
She’s very much suited to a big, slouchy, Lauren Hutton sort of style like this. We even think she might be working that hard-to-work mustard color. But we tend to think of corduroy as an accent piece or as part of a whole. The idea of head-to-toe corduroy, even if it mostly looks okay, is hard for us to applaud. Put it this way: we originally thought this was velvet and liked it much more. Corduroy doesn’t have that same sense of richness – quite the opposite, in fact. We feel like we’re being narrow-minded on the matter, but we think the jacket and pants would both be better off as parts of different outfits.
