Kristen Bell Squares Off in August Getty Atelier at the 2018 Women Making History Awards

Hmm.

Announcement: After careful consideration, we have decided to like and support this look, even though we don’t actually love it. Allow us to explain our fascinating line of thinking to you.

It’s true that this is a rectangle and not a square, but we couldn’t resist the post title. And it’s also true that it’s kind of a high-necked satiny square in a color that satin probably shouldn’t come in. We don’t think this is necessarily the best possible style for Kristen, but we can’t help respecting her choice to step outside the normal silhouette and try something with a little bit of strength and boldness to it. The idea of a look like this is to project an image of forward thinking modernity; the use of fashion as a form of art rather than a way to make you look prettier or sexier. And we have to admit, it’s styled really well. We like the bag, shoe and jewelry choices very much. It’s a striking look overall. Not flattering or pretty and definitely not without its issues, but we can’t help admiring the declarative strength of the choice.
