And now, a test, darlings. A test of your love for our Queen, as well as a test of your willingness to accept whatever Thom Browne is dishing out now. Because of our long-stated love of both of these things, it may not surprise you that we are filled with good feelings about this:
Fine. It’s a lot. We accept that. But it’s got that super-witty Browne quality to it, the way it evokes both business-wear and foundation garments without being objectifying or cliched about it. We adore the little briefcase bag and the pearls, both of which really play up the visual joke of the look while never coming off frivolous or costume-y. She’s too smart and too interesting not to understand the way this look plays with female imagery and roles, from the primness of the pearls to the sexy undertones of the foundation garment to the all-business aspect of the bag and the blouse. We can understand if folks don’t think this is pretty or fabulous, but we think it’s witty, savvy and perfectly suited to the wearer.
