We’ve been talking a bit lately about the slight uptick in ladystars wearing pants at dressy or formal events, mostly in relation to the exhaustive and exhausting efforts of one Miss Blake Lively, who’s been out there poledancing for her movie in looks that fall somewhere between the Monopoly game dude and Mr. Peanut. The longer we do this whole celebrity style commentary thing, the more we’re starting to think it odd that so many actresses are expected to do promotional work – a purely professional task and obligation – wearing ball gowns and cocktail dresses. There are, of course, many reasons as to why that’s the case, not the least of which is that the press and the public pay more attention to them when they adhere to fairly conventional ideas of glamour. Or that many if not most of them simply want to dress that way. And then there’s the fact that so many of the A-List ones have contractual obligations or agreements with high-end fashion designers, luxury goods lines and jewelry houses, like Emma, who’s here repping for peeps at Louis Vuitton.
And we think it’s great she opted to do this high-profile premiere while wearing the goods from the fashion house that pays her telephone bills but eschewing the expected dress or gown. The problem as we see it is that she forgot to put on her top. To be fair, the cami is very cute and we would have no issue if she was wearing a jacket over it. But the outfit as-is just comes off … not ready yet. Having said that, she truly looks gorgeous and we love everything she’s got, from the hair to the makeup to the jewelry to the shoes.
