Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson and Jon Hamm at the “Bad Times at the El Royale” Premiere

Posted on September 24, 2018

The ladies put on their best glitter and The Hamm served up a big ol’ platter of Hamm at the L.A. premiere of Bad Times at the El Royale. Given the trailer and the cast, we had reason to believe this might be an unusually stylish promo tour and so far, it looks like it will be. If you don’t count The Hamm, that is.

Cynthia Erivo in Zuhair Murad

It’s a great tragedy that, because of the last several weeks of film festivals and Emmys coverage, the rather stunning array of looks Miss Cynthia has been unveiling of late did not get to see much of the light of day here. In shirt, girlfriend’s been on a mission. She’s always been one for bold, unusual, statement-making fashion and style choices, but as she gears up for bigger stardom, she’s really ramped up her efforts. We LOVE this look. It’s not rewriting any red carpet rules or anything. In a lot of ways, the gown is standard starlet-wear. And it might not be a surprise to hear that we think the neckline is way too broad and deep, since we’ve been making similar complaints for years. But the color looks amazing, the glitz-n-glam level is off the scale and we love the pop of unexpectedness provided by her hair and makeup. It’s not a perfectly executed, drop-dead chic sort of look, but it’s bold, fun and perfectly suited to her.

Dakota Johnson in Gucci

It’s her usual Gucci Princess drag, with perhaps a slightly more conventionally glamorous feel to it. Pink’s a super-hot color and that’s a pretty shade of it, but we don’t think it’s a color she should be turning to often. She needs boldness in her fashion, otherwise she goes generic. It’s pretty, though. If it had been the same color as Cynthia’s dress, it would have been a knockout.

Jon Hamm in Tom Ford

It’s The Hamm serving Hamm. It’s not the most stylish menswear choices you’ll ever see, but we appreciate the view and his commitment to sticking with what works. But mostly the view. And listen: If Tom Ford lent us suits on the reg, we might go commando too, if it meant they wouldn’t ask for them back. He’s just being smart here.
