Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick at the “A Simple Favor” London and Paris Premiere

Posted on September 20, 2018

While we were off in the weeds of the Emmys red carpet, these two gals were out there trying to one-up each other on the red carpet, which is a thing that practically begs for our attention. We’re sorry it took us so long to get here, ladies, but we’re ready to judge you now.

Alrighty, then! Apparently, no one here is planning on wearing generic, forgettable looks. And to that, we say “HUZZAH.” That does not, however, mean that we totally love these outfits. We love that they’re not uninteresting, but we can’t take our love any further than that. Blake’s sudden turn toward all-suits, all the time (apparently a nod to her character’s wardrobe) has been one of the best developments in her public style. But we’re afraid we have to draw the line at peach suits with mint green ties. She looks like a Schoolhouse Rock character who’s about to teach us about Women’s Lib.  Miss Anna has made the interesting choice of pairing a vaguely unflattering skirt with a wholly unflattering top that looks like she spilled something on the real top she planned to wear that night.

They came out much stronger for this one. We seriously question the velvet top and the tie that looks like a belt sash tied around her neck, but we love Blake’s suit and sandals. Anna, we don’t even know what’s going on here. That thing is tacky, overdesigned, and somehow not enough dress at the same time. Nothing about it is flattering or chic or on trend, as far as we can see. It’s just a collection of loud elements, looking for something to unify them.
