Of all the annual celebrity promo experiences we cover, one of the few that actually makes us a little jealous is the water taxi ride to the Venice Film Festival. It’s so innately chic; like it would be hard to screw up your style choices because the actual experience is so wind-blown and cinematic; so hair-tossed and Hitchcockian. A person with good bone structure could put on any old thing and wind up looking chic making an entrance like that.
Which is perhaps not the best introduction to this post; first because these shots aren’t quite as sun-dappled as we’d described and second, because it implies Miss Naomi dressed like crap for the occasion.
On the contrary; there are some really lovely pieces here, not least of which is the dress, which is floaty and pretty and rendered in a lovely color. The thing is, as much as we like the dress and as much as we think this venue calls for aviators and a big hat, not to mention sensible footwear, we don’t think the various items pair all that well. The dress has too formal a tone to throw a linen jacket and some sneakers at it. It’s sort of a shame because the combination of these two styles – a pretty, semi-formal party dress paired with perfect-for-yachting shoes, bag, jacket, shades and hat – means neither of them get to shine quite as well as they could have.
Which isn’t to say she doesn’t look pretty; just that it comes off a bit mismatched when you really start looking at it.
