We find ourselves willing to give this look way more leeway than it may warrant, simply because we think Miss Mandy has a problem finding strongly declarative looks that look great on her. She has a history of routinely picking the former (to her credit), but she rarely ever hits the mark on the latter factor. This is not a look or style we’re inclined to love, but we think it has possibilities for her.
Okay, hear us out.
Like we said, she loves really strong looks. She’s no “basic LBD” kinda gal. She opts for shape, color and texture on the regular. Despite her somewhat lousy red carpet track record, we can’t help but admire her commitment to Bringing It every time. This plays into that preference nicely. It’s boldly colored and shaped, with a distinct texture and weight that sets it apart from the usual red carpet fare. We’re not suggesting she’s reinventing the wheel by putting on an ’80s inspired leather party dress, but despite the poor styling (the shoes are generic and the hair/makeup sitch is a bit awful), we think this direction could be a win for her.
Now play the T Lo home game and suggest hair and shoe options. We think a lightweight metallic sandal might counteract the heaviness of the dress. We’re stumped on the hair, though. Obviously, big ’80s hair is out, but what goes with those shoulders?
