Kittens, the Crazy Rich Asians poledance has begun and as expected (by those who expect such things), it’s turning out to be QUITE the fashion parade. In our imagination, it’s as if the Crazy Rich Asians cast stepped up to the promotional circle, where the Black Panther cast has been waiting to pass the Torch of Red Carpet Excellence to them with a hug and a cheer. In other words, these folks are not fooling around. We haven’t seen such across-the-board high fashion from one group of people since Wakanda dominated the red carpet.
Miss Constance? That’s your cue.
What we love about this is just how subtle the oddness of the design is. At first glance, it looks like a standard sequined sheath, the likes of which have been walking red carpets for decades. But as you take it in, you notice the sweep of the bustline, the unusual way the fringe is deployed and most importantle, the view of the bodice from the side, which has a sort of minimalist Elizabethan feel to it. She kept the hair, makeup fairly low-key and let the jewelry do all the work of supporting the dress. The effect is very balanced and chic but also just a little off-beat and surprising. She looks amazing. And we normally HATE fringe in all its forms.
