As we noted earlier, the week of July 4th is literally the worst week of the year for celebrity/fashion/pop culture coverage. And since most of the country is or has been suffering through a massive heatwave and feeling kind of tense (seriously: social media has gone totally bonkers this week), we’re more than happy to pick over the few celebrity fashion looks there are to choose from and selecting the really cute looks. We sense that we all need a little pretty in our lives this week.
Take it away, Miss Penelope.
We’ll always side-eye summer tweeds, because we simply can’t imagine wearing them in summer temperatures, but this is super-cute. The colors look great on her and the beret is a sassy little touch that really works for (when we’re pretty sure it would look silly or pretentious on plenty of other wearers). Quibbles? Sure: The shape’s a little unflattering. Not that every dress needs to be tightly fitted, but given the textile, this comes off almost a little shapeless. If it was a drapey or flowy fabric, it would work, but tweed calls for a little tailoring. Also: neutral pumps were a huge missed opportunity. We’re not usually big proponents of matchy accessorizing, but this kind of sweetly naive style pretty much calls for it. An orange pump would’ve been perfect here.
