Style trends come and go, kittens. They ebb and flow like the tides. This has been a truism of western fashion for centuries now. It’s just that the cycle has gotten much shorter and the periods being referenced tend to stretch no further back than 90 years or so. The flapper look may come back once every 20 years or so, but we won’t be seeing the return of the bustle any time soon.
Anyway, our point: things come back. And the youth don’t have the same connections, inferences and allusions about a returning a style than people who remember it the first time. Even so, it’s a bit hard for us to understand why any young star would want to do the promo rounds dressed like a secretary in 1980:
Sure, we’re always up for a little 9 to 5 cosplay. She’s serving up a little Judy Bernly realness and we can get behind that idea – even if it’s unlikely that she’s making the same references – or any references at all. Again, we can get behind that. The problem is that these pieces just aren’t that cute together. And the blouse really doesn’t fit her correctly.
