Miss Laurie’s career year went something like this: Win a Tony, get nominated for an Oscar, co-star in the biggest TV hit of the year (with an asterisk and a massive footnote attached), win another Tony. And while we don’t want to make too much of this, as if she were some sort of exotic creature pulling off unheard-of stunts, we can’t help but note all of this came after her 60th birthday. It’s inspiring to see artists and performers reach new heights at a time when so many would mistakenly consider them as past their prime.
Of course her style choices don’t amount to much when put up against a banner year like that, but fortunately, she’s got Christian Siriano to figure these things out for her:
Simple, dramatic, a little bold and very flattering. It looks like it could’ve used a good hoik to get the bust and bodice back into place a couple of times, but aside from that, we have no crits. She looks chic, confident, and memorable, which is exactly what you want when you’re picking up an award in front of millions.
