Miss Ri comes out in high style and high spirits for the charitable foundation she named after her grandparents.
As we noted the other day, Ri has a longstanding preference for playing with volume and proportions, and this dress is right along those lines. The shapes and silhouettes she goes for lately tend to focus the eye on parts of the body in ways that modern western fashion doesn’t always frame them. The design is meant to remind you of an oversized men’s style dress shirt, but the proportions and the textile don’t have anything to do with that reference. It’s why we find a lot of her style choices so fascinating, even if they’re not pretty or stylish in the conventional sense. She has an interesting sense of her own body and how she wants to display it, as well as an unusually adept sense of challenging proportional and shape norms. Add an undertone of almost regal richness, like something out of old European portraiture, pair it with lace-up sandals (another Ri trademark) and you’ve got a look that is 100 percent her own.
It’s hard to find an original look on the red carpet. Girlfriend serves them up on the regular.
