Kittens, is it even possible that you are surprised by this turn of events? There could be no doubt that we, High Fashion Bitch-Queens that we are, could only see these two boldly chic looks as the two worthy of a cage-match showdown of style. They were, in the immortal words of Tina, simply the best; better than all the rest.
Lo’s Pick: Anne Hathaway in Jean Paul Gaultier at the “Ocean’s 8” World Premiere.
Lo’s Defense: I yelled “OH MY GAAAAAAAHHD” when I saw her in this. I LOVELOVELOVE Gaultier and I honestly think Anne Hathaway is one of the few American celebrities who really get what he does and knows how to werq it. The print is stunning and I love the interesting take on a halter neckline, but it’s the silhouette that really makes this look. There’s nothing shy or apologetic about this; nothing that says she isn’t anything but confident in the extreme.
T’s Pick: Rihanna in Givenchy at the “Ocean’s 8” World Premiere.
T’s Defense: This is tough, because a lot of what I like about this dress is also true of Anne Hathaway’s. It’s unusual, it’s large, and it demands attention because of both of those factors. Anne’s dress was about print and scale, but I feel like Ri’s dress has a far more kinetic and textural feel to it. Not to sound weird about it, but it has such a sensory quality that you almost feel like you can hear the dress. One again, Rihanna found a look that could never be confused for anyone else’s. She never, ever does the expect and sometimes, like now, the results can be truly sublime.
Goodness! How ever will you make a decision after two such erudite and well-stated arguments from two people with great skin and strong jawlines? Sucks to be you!
