Pop Style Opinionfest: Politics, Social Change, and Disappointing Celebrities

Posted on June 01, 2018

Darlings, before we even begin to deal with the folks in the above collage, we started things off a little light this week by rolling through some capsule reviews of shows we’re currently watching. From Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (getting kind of dated in its comedy and dreary to get through) to Lo’s Netflix obsession, Fauda, season 2 (fascinating, gripping and worth your time), to Showtime’s Patrick Melrose (occasionally rage-inducing and insufferable, but it feels like it’s going somewhere), to SyFy’s Wynonna Earp (the equivalent of a trashy summer beach novel). Also, we wax rapsodic for a bit on Faces, Places, the wonderful, life-affirming, Oscar-nominated documentary, now on Netflix

THEN…

Well, you knew we weren’t going to keep our mouths shut on l’affaire Roseanne, right? And since we never got a chance to rant about that awful Arrested Development cast interview in the New York Times, we threw that into the mix, along with the Samantha Bee controversy and people (including Lorenzo) freaking out at the sight of Kim Kardashian in the Oval Office. Yes, it’s a charming and feel-good stroll through the swamp where celebrities, social change, and politics intersect. And this being 2018, it’s one rapidly expanding swamp.
