Darlings, for this week’s installment of Tom & Lorenzo Explain it All For You, we look at the worlds of fashion, television, gay iconography and drag. In other words, it’s a typical installment from these two mouthy queens.
First, we pay tribute to designer Kate Spade, whose death by suicide this week shocked the world – and a generation of women whose identities, aspirations and style were bound up entirely in her aesthetic. It’s a sad story and we urge anyone who’s currently feeling overwhelmed to, first: skip past the first 15 minutes of the podcast, but more importantly to reach out to someone to let them know. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: is 1-800-273-8255 or you can text HOME to the Crisis Text Line: 741741. The world is better with you in it.
On a much lighter note, we observe the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Sex and the City with a loving (and slightly critical) look back at the show; how it blazed trails, how it aged badly, where it went wrong, what it meant for The Gays, and where the franchise might consider going next. From two queens who once named one of their cats after a minor SATC side character from one episode (Amalita Amalfi, you are not forgotten, nor is your namesake, Amalita the cat), it’s as deep a dive on the show as you’re gonna hear all week.
And finally, of course, we have MUCH to say on the “Inner Saboteur” episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the upshot of which is that we found the entire episode and challenge to be eyeroll-worthy, and the outcome to be arbitrary and somewhat meaningless. That’s right. We said it.
Yes, kittens. Once again, your ol’ pals T Lo give it their all: All the laughter, all the tears, all the drag, all the bitching and whining. It’s all here, our very souls, laid out for your consumption. Are you happy now, you vultures? ARE YOU?
Just kidding. Thank you for all your support, dolls! Don’t forget to tell your paper boy and girl scout troop about us!
