After a solid day of CFDA-bitching, return with us now to that rarefied world of fake flowers and inappropriate-for-the-setting footwear known as the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, darlings.
Miss Penelope, take us away.
Lady, you’re gorgeous and fabulous and we feel like none of this is your fault, for some reason. Granted, you evidently chose to wear this frock, so that’s on you, dear.
But our issue tends to be with Zac Posen and his obsession with fucking up basic dress designs with unnecessary and overwrought structural techniques like oddly placed seams or pleats. The fabric is pretty enough. The sleeves, neckline and silhouette – to the knees, at least – all look great. But that flare is just awful and all that weird business at the waist and hips serves only to detract. It’s not that we think he has to design basic dresses. He just needs to find more aesthetically pleasing (to borrow a term) ways of expressing the differences and twists he wants to bring those basic designs.
