The “Ocean’s 8” World Premiere Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on June 06, 2018

Darlings, as predicted, the “Ocean’s 8” red carpet turned out to be a high-fashion event with some eye-popping looks. We’ve made our way through the opinions on the looks of Ri, Sandy, Anne, Cate, and Sarah, but now it’s time to round up the less … shall we say… eye-popping looks of the night. Not that anyone did badly here, but Cate rocked out, Sarah blinded us with fabulous, Anne pitched a tent, Sandy posed a conundrum, and Ri came dressed in her very own ocean. Some ladies were bound to come up a little short in comparison.

Awkwafina in Reem Acra

A bit of a minimalist take on a sort of “Dracula’s Daughter’ vibe, which works out better than it sounds. We wish it was a bit more opaque all the way through, but as is, it has real drama without her having to work too hard for it. The glitter eyeshadow is a great touch.

Dascha Polanco in Jay Godfrey

It’s … okay, all things considered (like the fact that she has a pretty bad red carpet history). We’ve been seeing this sort of marigold/goldenrod color a lot lately and it doesn’t strike us as a very easy one to wear.

Gigi Hadid in Vera Wang

The sleeves are dumb, but we really like the Goth-Romantic vibe, which looks a lot better on her than we’d have predicted.

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood Couture

It’s like she gave up, knowing who she’d be sharing this red carpet with. We’re terribly disappointed, HBC. We were hoping for some super-cray.

Mindy Kaling in Prabal Gurung

Love the textiles, but the bust is over-designed and the straps are too heavy. She could use something a lot simpler and streamlined in that area.
