For whatever reasons (but let’s just say most of them rhyme with “Smack Smanther”), boystars have really started to step up their style game. We’re basing this on our own red carpet tealeaf-reading and the fact that we tend to be faced with an unprecedented amount of celebrity male style content lately. While we can always expect to see more men poledancing during the summer movie blockbuster season, there’s been a distinct uptick in the efforts of the men to show up looking like they put some thought into it. All of this has virtually nothing to do with Jared Leto, who has never failed to embrace fashion as a form of branding and expression. Really, the only reason we’re bringing it up now is because there’s yet more male red carpetry in the pipeline for today, but none of it even comes close to the self-indulgent joy Gucci Jesus brings to his style game.
There are plenty of times his shtick winds up annoying the fuck out of us, which is always the risk when one’s style brief has “SEEK ATTENTION” at the very top, in all-caps. But sometimes, you’ve just got to appreciate when a look and a wearer are so right for each other, even if it seems ridiculously obvious in retrospect. This morning, with the world the way it is at the moment, we suggest you just settle back and let Jared work his “Gay Godspell Cast Member” Chicness. Get your day started with some color, joy, and pretentious attention-whoring on a grand scale.
