If you have any understanding of Miss Amy’s red carpet history and style preferences, just this mid-shot alone should have you perking up in your seat, as it did us. You see, our girl here loves sheaths and sleekness more than anything else. Or at least, that’s usually been the case before now. She’s sporting quite the flare on that skirt, unlike her normal preferences. In our neverending obsession with red carpet tea-leaf-reading, we declare the following style surprise to be Amy Adams’ opening salvo in her battle to secure an Emmy and predict lots of high-profile looks in the months to come. Granted, we may have raised your expectations a little too high, because while this is a surprising change in direction for her …
We can’t say we love it all that much. We’re confused by the plunging neckline in the middle of such a covered-up and vaguely old-fashioned style. And the black makes the silhouette look a little witchy or nun-like. It’s not without possibilities, however. In fact, we’d have told her to lean into the look’s gothier qualities (and solve the proportional oddness of that neckline) by sporting a big, honking pendant to really set the look off. Go a little more dramatic in the hair and makeup as well. A dress like this pretty much calls for a heavy hand in the styling. Still, it’s an interesting change of pace for her and we hope she continues trying out new things. How about a print next time, lady?
