Reading the red carpet tea leaves, we think Miss Alison is someone who once took a fairly perfunctory approach to the red carpet, but has learned how to work it a little more effectively over time. It’s one of our favorite things to watch in a star whose star is on the rise. Each of these looks are quite different from the other, demonstrating a wide range and evolved approach to style, and each look is strong in its own way.

We love this for her. It’s got just enough impact without going overboard. This isn’t the place for high glam, which isn’t much to her tastes anyway. This feels fun, but professional. And the silver sandals make for an unexpected bit of funkiness to keep things from getting too businesslike.
But she went the complete opposite route for the BBMAs:

“Sex Kitten” isn’t necessarily the best use of her style skills or the first and best way to showcase herself, but she’s got a knack for it and brings something of a knowing wink to a look that might seem a little tryhard on, say, Lea Michele. The dress isn’t really to our tastes, but she looks pretty hot in it and her hair and makeup are flawless. Love the bangs, girl.
