You’ve got your work cut out for you in this week’s Cannes-flavored showdown, darlings! Not only were these the two best looks of the week, but they will almost certainly be counted among the best looks of the year come December. Even more daunting as you try and make your choice, they represent very different, possibly even polar opposite approaches to the red carpet: pure spectacle vs. personal style statement.
Lo’s Pick: Aishwarya Rai in Michael Cinco Couture at the “Girls of the Sun” Screening.
Lo’s Defense: COME ON, PEOPLE. WHAT EXACTLY DO I HAVE TO SAY HERE?
T’s Pick: Thandie Newton in Vivienne Westwood at the “Solo: A Star Wars Story” Screening.
T’s Defense: I can remember a time when “nerd” had a very specific image attached to it and this *gestures up and down at Miss Thandie* was most definitely NOT it. She had the Westwood folks photograph her own collection of black Star Wars character figurines and integrate them into the print of the dress. I can see the argument for Aishwarya’s stunner, but this is such a charming and fabulous statement that spans the personal to the political. And she looks amazing in it to boot.
