Pop Style Opinionfest: Politics, Culture, Queens & TV Talk

Posted on May 04, 2018

Kittens, we’re ALL OVER THE CULTURE MAP this week, so brace yourselves.

FIRST: We offer some thoughts on the ways in which politics, social issues, and pop culture interacted this week, from comedian Michelle Wolf’s incendiary set at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, to Bill Cosby’s guilty verdict, to Kanye’s hard-to-take public statements, to Gigi Hadid having to apologize on behalf of Vogue Italia for accusations of black face. Much to mull over!

SECOND: We return to our absolutely fabulous and fun conversation with television critic Mo Ryan, who sat down with us for an epic three-hour convo on television, criticism, pop culture, #MeToo, systemic problems in the entertainment industry, and her own career plans. Part one can be found in last week’s podcast and part three will be included in next week’s, but THIS week, we go in hard on specific TV shows, such as LOST, Mad Men, Lost in Space, Star Trek: Discovery (and a nerdy-af tour of several other Star Trek series), as well as an examination of Amazon’s programming troubles, the tendency of television to repeat its successes ad nauseam, the differences between TV in 2018 and TV circa 2001-2010, the resurgence of Roseanne and whether it really means anything in the grander scheme of things, and the one site TV executives are most obsessed with and what it means for television criticism.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: A full recap of the Snatch Game episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race:

It’s all here once again, darlings. PLUS several notable appearances by our cats Daisy and Tab Hunter!
