Bitchy, unfair, and totally judgmental headline? You BETCHA. It’s the T Lo Way.
They’re here for the party and a little bit of press, but neither of them are trying to sell us anything, so we can’t really say we blame them for sleepwalking their way through their style choices. He’s fine enough. The studiously undone tie and shirt collar is something of a cliche at this point, but it’s a style cliche for which musical artists receive special dispensation. Can’t fault a country singer for not wanting to get too fancy’d up. Then again, you’re at the American Songbook Gala at Lincoln Center, which means pretensions of working class realness do tend to come off a tad silly.
She is doing two things that make our eyelids twitch: dressing wildly off-season and making a nonsensical dress/shoe pairing. The frock would be fabulous for December. The sandals are perfectly appropriate for near-June. The two of them together give her a totally unbalanced visual.
They’re fine, of course. We’re just professional nitpickers and have a quota to fill.
