Given the expectations of the Met Gala red carpet; the idea that pretty much all bets are off and everyone should opt for the most attention-seeking fashion they can get their hands on, it really takes some effort to wind up looking like the TryHard of the night.
Miss Katy, that is your cue, unfortunately:
Our problem is not that this is over-the-top. We’re already on record praising some fairly extra lewks from this red carpet. Our problem is that it’s so damn unimaginative. This doesn’t reference Catholic iconography, it references the Miss Universe national costume parade. It’s not alluding to, say, angels in Renaissance paintings or European stained glass. It’s just a very expensive version of the “Sexy Angel” costume at Party City.
