Helena Bonham Carter and Jason Watkins Officially Join the Cast of “The Crown” Season 3

We don’t know why it takes Netflix so long to nail these things down – the HBC rumor is 6 months old now – but we finally got confirmation that she’ll be playing Princess Margaret in season 3 of Netflix’s The Crown opposite Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth. Also announced was Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson, continuing the show’s tradition of casting much better-looking men as PM than the men they’re portraying. Then again, that’s true of the whole cast, isn’t it?

Here’s what HBC had to say on the matter of her casting:  “I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret. The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter (than Vanessa).”

We have no doubt she’ll blow the doors off and we’ll enjoy every minute of her portrayal, but it’s still a bit of a head-scratcher to us. It’ll take some time to adjust to her after Vanessa’s portrayal (something she seems genuinely nervous about herself), and she’s almost a decade older than Olivia, who’ll be playing her older sister. We’re excited for the show’s return (some time next year), but slightly apprehensive that it can make the leap over this threshold and still retain its audience.
