Cannes 2018: Lupita Nyong’o in Dior Couture at the “Cold War” Screening

Posted on May 11, 2018

It’s Friday, which means we all deserve to not have to do anything at all today. Unforch, reality has a tendency to intrude, so the best we can offer you in lieu of a day of leisure is short bursts of beauty throughout the day. First up: Miss Lupita, floating on by in Cannes.

It’s rare to see a black woman working a white sheer on the red carpet. We suspect most black female celebrities are waved away from them by their stylists. But Lupita has a way of pushing against the restrictions of red carpet style and we think it largely paid off for her this time. It’s dramatic as hell.

But the design of the bodice doesn’t look so hot when it’s thrown in high relief. All those curved and intersecting lines are distracting and even a little unflattering. It’s still a great look, but that bodice design prevents it from being a truly spectacular one.

Miss Lady’s hair, as ever, looks fab.
