We don’t know if it’s a natural softening of our opinions of her over time as more of her hardships have come out or if she really is pulling it together for herself on the style front, but this look, while not being REMOTELY to our tastes, looks pretty well done:
Are we nuts? There was a time when we might have dinged it for being a bit too referential to other artists (i.e., ripping someone else’s look off), but this basic hippy-dippy cowgirl look of hers has remained fairly true over time and she seems to have honed it down to something stylish and statement-making. It’s costume, of course. Stagewear, whether there’s a stage to be had or not. And while we don’t love every aspect of this design, it comes together in a stylish way by keeping the color story fairly neutral and unified and by balancing out all the movement in the pieces with some sparkle and colorful embroidery. It’s both too much and admirably restrained at the same time. More importantly, there’s no denying that it’s all very much her. She comes off comfortable and confident in this look.
