Meghan Markle Shuts Our Mouths

Posted on April 23, 2018

Darlings, if the mark of true royalty is the ability to shut the peasants up without breaking a sweat, then we suppose a “YAAAAS, QUEEEEEN” is in order here. Last week, after she stepped out in her 3000th public black dress (possible exaggeration), we announced that she was never going to be the exciting fashion princess of our fantasies and we’d all just have to settle in for a reign characterized by colorless sheaths.

The future Duchess was apparently having none of that talk.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attend the Invictus Games Reception at Australia House in London, England.

Suddenly, color and pattern are on the menu, to our great relief. It’s a really cute dress with a surprisingly low neckline. Obviously, we’re not fussed about it. If anything, we’re happy to see she hasn’t yet been talked into a very Windsor form of demureness.

She sure does love a black blazer, doesn’t she?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrive at the Royal Albert Hall to attend concert to celebrate the Queen’s 92nd birthday in London, England.

We don’t love this look quite as much, but we appreciate it for having a bit of regal drama to it, what with the built-in cape and all. The length is awkward, though. And aside from the cape, the look has no other distinguishing features. The brown bag sticks out like a sore thumb and we’re not convinced on the shoe color. Her accessories choices feel like attempts to give the dress a little oomph, but she might have been better off focusing on more notable jewelry for the look.
