Darlings, spring is finally in full swing and the pop culture promotional landscape is waking up again after a drowsy post-awards season showing, which means we have a surprising number of leftovers this week – and some of them are actually quite notable. Sorry, celebrities. We’d have loved to give you all your own spotlights this week but …
Actually, we have no ending to that sentence. Onward! To judgment!
Andra Day in Victoria Hayes
You can’t beat this for pure impact. It’s a look that demands you take it all in. We can respect it on that alone, but there are some issues here. The nipple buttons are unnecessary and distracting. The sleeves are too long and the hairstyle, while fabulous really isn’t the best choice for that dress. It’s a garment with so much going on, so big a personality, that it doesn’t need a hair do that pulls focus like that.
Nice enough, but too young to be so conservative in his dress.
It’s a cute dress currently being haunted by another, less cute dress.
Meh. It’s a tired and overdone look. We can’t all be Johnny Cash.
Obviously not a high-fashion moment, but it’s a cute enough stepping-out-post-divorce-like-you-just-don’t-care moment.
Nothing wrong here, although we’re not in love with the shoes.
Mister, you need a lot more color than this suit’s providing you.
Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon
Cute. Love her shoes.
Miss Lynda, having some fun with her fashion and staying comfy at the same time. Doing it right, in other words.
Mackenzie Davis in Calvin Klein
If it didn’t have the random buttons and bits of writing, this would be just about perfect. Love the choice of shoe color to finish it off.
Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker (in Alessandra Rich)
Matthew just doesn’t care anymore.
Miranda Lambert in Georges Chakra
We don’t love it, but we’d probably be a bit more okay with it if the red of the skirt and the red of the bodice were closer. They’re just slightly off from each other.
We suspect this dress photographs worse than it looks in person, so we’re willing to be lenient here, but the nude hose is a bridge too far. It’s just not a good look for the red carpet.
Love this crazy chick. She’s kickass and she’s doing it entirely too the beat in her head that only she can hear. There’s no one like her on the red carpet.
Having said that, there are at least 3 shades too many of red in this look.
Olivia Culpo in Ester Abner
Meh. It’s too generic for her. She’s got way too many fun, witty looks under her belt. This is forgettable.
The dork is strong in this one. We want to thumbs-up this look, but he’s entirely too clean cut in looks to make it really work.
Ron Livingston and Rosemarie Dewitt
An ill-fitted business suit and a dress in a hideous color. Love your work, guys, but this is awful.
This is good in theory, but the shapes of the pieces aren’t that great and the jacket in particular looks pretty cheap and flimsy.
