And now for something new and refreshing: pretty people in expensive clothing looking nice.
It makes our jobs so much harder when they don’t make mistakes, darlings. We’ll be nice about it, but read all of the following in a sneering voice that’s barely able to hide the seething rage underneath. It’ll make it more fun for you.
She’s been leaning really hard on this naive sort of romanticism in her style lately, but this is bordering on a Valentine’s Day card. It’s pretty, and she can certainly work it well, but it’s not our favorite sort of look for her. We tend to like the more dramatic side of her style preferences, but we think she’s making this current turn because she’ll be spending the next nine months talking about Mary Poppins and trying to convince people she’s an appropriate successor to Julie Andrews.
But like we said, it’s all very pretty. There’s not one part of this look that doesn’t read as expensive and well-chosen. Having said that, we think whatever tiny issues we might have with the twee factor come down to things like the bracelets and pink clutch, which tend to tip this over into Barbie Land.
We have always been open about our bias against black dress shirts, even as we constantly admit that there are times, outfits and/or men who can make it work. He’s fine, but the lightness of the suit and the purple polka-dotted tie really scream for a lighter shirt. It just doesn’t look right.
