It occurs to us that this is pretty much Elizabeth’s go-to look:
Pumps, a dress with a retro silhouette, and a moto to top it off. She’s sported this style of look at least a dozen times over the last few years.
Now, we think the moto-over-dress look bounces back and forth between “classic look” status and “bit of a cliche” status. But Lizzie is actually well-suited for it, because if she’s not styled correctly, she can kind of recede into the background. Bold, self-consciously kickass looks like this one allow her to shine and stand out a bit. This look usually hovers around “cliche” status when it’s perfunctorily rendered. You can’t throw a moto over just any dress and expect it to work. Here, it’s a perfect marriage. The high, cinched waist of the dress meets the bottom of the jacket perfectly. And because the bodice is unfussy and simple, the jacket sits on her the way it was designed to. The proportions are just right. And the surprise reveal of the back makes for a good red carpet moment.
We were going to put this one up to a vote, but we talked ourselves into loving it just because it’s so well done.
The bag’s kind of a big nothing, though.
