Okay, so first: let’s stipulate that every bad thing we said about James McAvoy’s terrible CinemaCon attire also applies to Jack here, with the proviso that at least the man put on a jacket, rumpled though it may be.
Second, please consider what we wrote about how Sarah Paulson failed to read the room and overdressed for the occasion while you take in what Miss Cate is serving up:
We’d say she pretty much nailed it. She found a way to wear something high-fashion while not looking out of place standing next to Jack Black.
Mind you, we’d never argue that any woman needs to dress in accordance with how her male co-workers might be dressed. It shouldn’t be considered Cate’s problem if Jack’s a slob. If anyone should be examining their choices here it’s him. But she’s smart about public image and how to use fashion to manipulate it. Yesterday, she came out for the Ocean’s 8 panel dressed like her character in that film. Today, she’s doing a sort of high-fashion drag version of casual menswear. She knows what she’s doing. The particulars of the outfit may be a little goofy, but the image-management is tight.
