Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and Lena Waithe at the “Ready Player One” Los Angeles Premiere

Posted on March 27, 2018

A range of looks, darlings! From the highly conventional to the slightly goofy to the totally true! And each of them have their pros and their cons! We’re not nearly as excited as all of these exclamation points would imply! We’re just trying to ramp you up for judgment!

Tye Sheridan in Valentino

From what we’ve seen of him so far, he’s getting admirably well-fitted suits for his appearances. We don’t love him in such a basic style as this, which is merely high-end businesswear. He’s young and he’s in a big pop culture/sci fi Spielberg blockbuster. He doesn’t have to show up dressed like one of the film’s producers.

Also, his tie is a skosh too long.

Credit to Miss Girl here for taking the bold, if slightly goofy route. We’d probably be struggling to accept the slick finish no matter what, and the design of the bust is weirdly unflattering,  but we thought we could convince ourselves that this one had real styling possibilities. But let’s face it; once that trash bin liner was tied around her neck, this became a Project Runway challenge that escaped from the studio and found its way onto a red carpet.

Still, she didn’t come here to recede into the background and that is to be commended.

Lena Waithe in Tommy Hilfiger

Also to be commended: someone who stays true to herself and finds a way to represent that through her style choices. We are not without our quibbles, however. Everything from the waist up is great. Love the jacket, love the t-shirt. The pants and the kicks seem like afterthoughts. We’re not sure what to suggest here; just that the top of the look has great style and personality, while the bottom half is just … there. Maybe a pant with a tuxedo stripe or a sneaker with a gold metallic element in its design, to pick up on the chain. Just little touches to give the bottom half the same level of personality that the top half does.

LOVE that backdrop.
