Kittens, let’s check in on a tiny smattering of stylish stars willing to brave the dreaded lemon yellow backdrop at SXSW.
Elle Fanning in Ganni
Miss Elle opted for a formal garage mechanic’s uniform in dramatic black with pinstripes. We tried to come up with the bitchiest description possible, but we actually love this. High glam or even high fashion – not really the best first options for this venue. Something comfy and interesting is a better way to go. Love the shoes but the bag doesn’t go.
Emily Blunt (in Prabal Gurung) and John Krasinski (in Ben Sherman/Rag & Bone)
He’s so generically dressed that she looks like she’s hugging a cardboard cutout. We’ll take the kind interpretation and assume he’s dressed to let his wife have the spotlight. And she is definitely dressed for attention. Or dressed for picture-taking, at least. It’s a pretty goofy dress, though. The overall style is mumsy except for the part where half her midsection is exposed. You’re going to need to find better ways to update the Mary Poppins look than this, dear.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Vivienne Westwood
The halter strap looks pretty uncomfortable, but the rest of this is really pretty and lightly chic. Trust Miss Gugu to get it right.
Olivia Wilde in Carolina Herrera
So many decent outfits are being ruined by ugly pink footwear among the celebrity set lately. Granted, that turquoise color would be eye-searing no matter what color the shoes are, but the addition of pink sends the look spiraling off into the eighties. Great dress on its own, though.
