Translating the Trends for Spring 2018: Get Your DENIM On, Girl!

Posted on March 27, 2018

Darlings, Lorenzo walked you through the trendiest lavender pieces of the season (incidentally, the most popular of the spring 2018 posts by far). He piled up his imaginary shopping cart with all the hottest bold colors of the season, not to mention all the chicest vertical-striped looks a gal could want in order to feel up to date as the days get longer. And now? Now Lo takes you for a stroll through that never-goes-away favorite…DENIM:

Calvin Klein | Carolina Herrera | Chloé | Christian Dior | Colovos

Sonya Rykiel | Stella McCartney | Tibi | Tom Ford | Tommy Hilfiger

As you can see, it was all over the runways for spring. And just this week, there were three denim pieces or looks on the red carpet worn by some high-impact and trendy gals (Millie Bobby Brown, Madelaine Petsch, Kat Graham). Not exactly a shock or a revolutionary turn of events, of course. We doubt anyone reading this has a wardrobe entirely bereft of denim. But sometimes, when it swings back around again as a high-fashion option instead of merely a fallback one, it can be a good time to freshen up what you’ve got by looking for a newer wash, an updated silhouette, or just a replacement for a worn-out classic. As you can see from the above runway selection, the trend now is about finding fresher ways to wear these classic looks. And we might as well start off with the most classic of classic denim pieces (aside from jeans, we suppose):

DENIM JACKETS

As you can see, Lo picked a bunch of classic styles and then threw in some twists to keep things lively. Please note the wide price points here. You may hover over something way out of your range, but Lo made sure to find affordable and sassy pieces too.

His faves here? Michael Kors, Haute Rogue and Marc Jacobs, but he also thinks some of those ASOS pieces have real style and pop to them.

Next up, for the bold gal who wants the full denim experience…

DENIM DRESSES, ROMPERS & JUMPSUITS

This category is easily the most on-trend when it comes to wearing denim this spring. Denim dresses are a classic, of course, but there’s something kind of fresh and breezy about a cute denim romper or jumpsuit – and all of them are fairly easy to style up or down, like most denim pieces.

Lo’s faves here? The J. Crew dress ( a true classic), the Forever 21 jumpsuit, the Rachel Comey jumpsuit and the Nanette Lepore romper.

But if you just want to make denim part of your overall look, then it’s time for you to head on over to the imaginary section known as…

DENIM SEPARATES

Because who doesn’t love a cute denim skirt or pair of shorts? You’ll note Lorenzo went light on the jeans choices. He figures most of us know what kind of jeans we prefer/which work best for us, so he just threw in a few eye-catching label pieces, like that adorable Michael Kors pair. Also, he’s your man if the words “denim blouse” seem strange to you, because he’s got an eye for finding some really cute ones, like the 7 For All Mankind one, or that ruffled Stella McCartney, which would look cute with shorts or white jeans. The RedValentino patchwork skirt is adorable and very on-trend, but that Kenzo number is especially sassy.

And finally, for just some little pops of denim here and there, Lo’s got you covered:

DENIM ACCESSORIES

Because what’s not to love about a denim wedge or sandal, darlings? And are those backbacks not fabulous? Are those bags not sassy? These are rhetorical questions of course. Lo loves all of these pieces and couldn’t even begin to pick a favorite, so you’ll have to do it for him.

So, feeling like getting a little chic denim action on this spring? What looks good here, kittens?
