It’s time, kittens! Time once again for you to make what we truly and sincerely hope is the hardest choice of your week: Which of the T Lo-selected entries is the best-dressed celebrity of the week? Or, if you want to take a bitchier perspective: Who has better taste, T or Lo?
Lo’s Pick: Gugu Mbatha-Raw at the 2018 BAFTA Awards in London in Vionnet.
Lo’s Defense: The past month has been full of beautiful, fabulous red carpet looks from a lot of ladies. I think it takes something really special to quietly stand out when so many other women are looking so fierce right now, but this is exactly the kind of look I like to see. It’s not subtle, but there’s something so elegant about it. Maybe it’s because she’s wearing it. She has amazing poise. But I adore way it combines a classic goddess gown with an unexpected burst of colors.
T’s Pick: Tessa Thompson at the “A Wrinkle in Time” Los Angeles Premiere in London in Miu Miu.
T’s Defense: I agree that there’s been a TON of stunning red carpetry in the last month, ever since Black Panther opened, followed by the Oscars race heating up as it heads into its final stretch. I also agree that there’s something very appealing about “quietly chic” amidst all the fierceness. Tessa’s had a couple of uncharacteristic style stumbles this week, but this wasn’t one of them. She’s so well-suited to ’30s-inspired details like that little Peter Pan collar or the puffed short sleeves. Combined with the beading, the shocking pink lip and the totally sci-fi hair, it serves up something in total that’s beautiful, different, and perfectly suited to the wearer. That’s just good style, period.
Boy, this is a tough one. We’re glad we’re not you!
