BATTLE OF THE TEENAGERS!
Aw, we’re just kidding. This is about specific styles and not about pitting these two lovely young ladies against each other. In fact, we both had a bit of an issue picking which one we wanted to back. In the end, our picks are a little arbitrary because we’d rate both of these looks as A+.
But in a way, this worked out nicely, because to our way of thinking, this week’s showdown is less about declaring which girl looks better than the other and more about the larger question of teen-girl red carpet style and the best way to express it.
T’s Pick: Storm Reid at the Kids’ Choice Awards 2018 in Moschino.
T’s Defense: My arguments for this look come down to this: it’s high-fashion and high-impact in the way a young fashionista wants. It keeps her away from dressing like a little girl (which she definitely doesn’t want), but doesn’t push her into a precocious chic mode or a forced sexual expression. Plus it suits her colorful, fantasy-infused Disney project style. And as always, her spectacular hair puts a modern, fresh spin on any look.
Lo’s Pick: Millie Bobby Brown at PaleyFest’s “Stranger Things” Panel in Sara Oscar de la Renta.
Lo’s Defense: I think this one practically speaks for itself. It’s about as classic as a princess fantasy look can get. The black and the stars add both drama and whimsy to it without going overboard with either. She likes to dress in a fairly mature style, so I think this dress checks off some boxes for her while remaining fun and slightly youthful in style. It’s one of her best looks, to be honest.
There you have it, darlings! Two approaches to teen-girl style: boldly, brightly modern, or chic and romantically whimsical! Which one’s it gonna be?
