Posing Lessons from Tilda Swinton at the Qumra Doha Film Festival

Posted on March 12, 2018

Tilda Swinton poses during a portrait session on day one of Qumra, the fourth edition of the industry event by the Doha Film Institute dedicated to the development of emerging filmmakers at the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, Qatar.

And now, International Posing Expert and All-Around Creature of Fabulosity Tilda Swinton will walk us all through a brief range of ancient posing techniques.

First, there is the beginner-level “Post awkwardly on a stump near a small body of water in a pencil skirt made out of table runners” pose. She is, of course, executing it flawlessly.

A slight variation:

Note the closed mouth, and how it completely alters the entire feel of the pose. Such is the art in the hands of a master.

Next, she attempts the more difficult “Smiling placidly while being attacked by water” pose:

This is only to be attempted by the highest masters of the form. Over a quarter-dozen people have died in the last century attempting this pose.

Look, what do you want from us? She’s making that slightly silly skirt and basic blouse work. Even while being attacked by water.
