We will, of course, have much to say about all the celebrity style choices on the Oscars red carpet over the next several hours/days, but we think it says something that before we get to any more of the nominees or winners, we’re opting to feature these two goddess-queens.
Why? Because once again, the warrior-queens of Wakanda are doing the red carpet better than pretty much anyone else. And by that we mean they’re serving up the most exciting, dramatic and unique looks of almost any other actresses we can think of.
Lupita Nyong’o in Atelier Versace
We’d have expected Lupita to be the one who’d deliver a princess fantasy on an Oscars red carpet, but instead, she came out hard and bold. Sure, the gold gives it that royal touch that she and several other members of the Black Panther cast have been working, but the shoulder treatment and bandolier-like embellishment leave no question as to whether we’re looking at the warrior or the queen here. It’s gorgeous, it’s unique, it’s strong, and it’s like nothing else seen on that red carpet.
Danai Gurira in Gabriela Hearst
Miss Danai also flipped the script by taking the highly unexpected route of serving up Grace Kelly realness – with a shaved and painted head. She did THAT. And she pulled it off beautifully. It looks glamorous and regal, but also strong and RIDICULOUSLY modern.
