Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit the Eikon Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of “Amazing The Space,” a peace initiative launched by Prince Harry in September 2017 to encourage young people to become ambassadors for peace within their communities.
No Wills-and-Kate matchy-matchness going on here. While we think Cathy Cambridge wields considerable influence over how Meghan is dressing for her public appearances (if only in a passive manner, by merely existing in the role for a decade and establishing a neutral-toned, pump-wearing, coat-centered low-keyness to it), it’s also clear to us that Meghan is slowly finding her own way. We suspect we’ll all look back on the 2018 version of Meghan some day and marvel at how much her style has changed since.
Anyway, she looks pretty great. Royal style-watchers have a tendency to find all sorts of hidden meanings in the clothing choices of the Windsor family women, but we sometimes find that approach to be more than a little overblown and that it wrongly assumes the people involved spend lots of time working out secret messages in their color choices or brooches, rather than just picking pretty, photogenic looks that won’t offend anyone. Still, it’s not hard to see the green skirt as a deliberate choice to pay homage to her hosts. Funny she paired it with those rust-colored pumps, since it evokes the tricolor flag of the Republic of Ireland, though. Even so, it’s nice to see her introducing some rich colors to her style choices. That cool blue neutrality of Cathy isn’t going to serve her as well in the long run. We just need to get her to ditch the whites and creams she seems to be favoring. They look okay on her, but they shouldn’t be her fall-back color options.
Harry needs to ditch those cheap-ass-looking boots.
