Before we to to running down the last of the formal looks on Oscar night, let’s travel back in time a little further, to Oscar Eve, when all the little stars and starlets came together for the annual tradition of celebrating their independent spirits.
The FIS awards are a fun affair from a fashion perspective. The looks range from formal to fun. You never quite know what you’ll get. We took a look at Allison’s, Margot‘s, Timothee’s and Saoirse’s looks over the weekend, with a special moment to gasp and bow down before Chadwick and Danai (GOD, have we been busy), but it’s far past time to get to judgin’ on the rest of them.
Alison Brie in Ralph & Russo Couture
Pretty, but over-tiered. Needed a more substantial shoe.
Allison Williams in Andrew Gn
Great color and dramatic as hell. Not convinced on the sleeves, but we love the skirt.
Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen
Aubrey Plaza in Miu Miu
She is PERFECT for Wednesday Addams drag, but how could she pair those basic sandals with such a fun and fierce dress?
Ava DuVernay in Greta Constantine
We don’t think we’ve ever seen her legs on the red carpet before. It was a scrolldown surprise. Love the color and sleeves, not so much on the skirt, which is a bit stiff.
Betty Gabriel in Tadashi Shoji
Elizabeth Olsen in Zuhair Murad
As is so often the case, it all fell apart for us when we got to the crotch. Girlfriend, please.
Greta Gerwig in Rosie Assoulin
She’s been killing it on the style front all throughout awards season, to the bitter end. We’re choosing to strike this entry from her records. It’s horrible.
John Cho in Neil Barrett
Go home and try again, John. We’re saying “again,” to be polite, but there was clearly no effort made here.
Kerry Washington in Missoni
We keep trying to love it, but the print is too muddy and the booties look ridiculous with it.
Kumail Nanjiani (in ASOS) and Emily V. Gordon (in Whitney Mero)
Cuties once again. LOVE his suit.
We’re gonna need a moment here to fan ourselves.
He’s always hot, but we don’t think we’ve ever seen him look so stylish. Everything’s perfect.
